Well it’s over – finally! Don’t get me wrong, it was absolutely fantastic and probably best conference I’ve ever attended. It’s just with all the daily activities, meetings, after hour’s events, and trying to keep up with work, there was VERY little time for sleep. As tired as I am, some people took the networking opportunity to a whole new level… We ran into a marketing guy from one of the vendors at the conference last night. He was getting on an elevator to go out on the town as we were getting off around 8PM. He was pumped up saying that his day was just starting. I took that to mean that he was counting on making business hay during the Vegas night social activities. Now fast forward to this morning when we were getting on the same elevator at 7:30am and there was the same guy getting off; just coming in from the night to do a quick change and get back to the conference. All I can say is wow!
With some 8,000 people in attendance it is the largest single product conference I have ever seen and has to be one of the biggest ever. So what is it about SharePoint that drives this compelling sense of community? It really is something unique. Someone said to me that it seems to be a product with a personality; good description.
Is it partially folks trying to get in on the gravy train? Is there some over-hype? Certainly, but a lot of people genuinely believe that this platform can transform the way we do business in a very positive way.
The big buzz was all around the new version of SharePoint – SP2010. I’m not going to even try to cover all the product aspects. It was a truly unique experience and I wouldn’t have missed it for anything! Now only a few more hours of travel and I can make my appointment with my pillow. Viva SharePoint! Sorry, just had to say that J
